The Thermal Social Bonus is a direct aid through the granting of a single annual payment aimed at compensating energy costs for thermal uses (heating, domestic hot water or cooking) or support for saving actions or improvements in energy efficiency.
This Social Bonus was created in Article 5 of Royal Decree-Law 15/2018, of 5 October, on urgent measures for the energy transition and consumer protection in order to complement the aid received as the Electricity Social Bonus by vulnerable consumers, for energy for heating, domestic hot water or cooking. regardless of which font is used.
In Cantabria, the management and payment of the Thermal Social Bonus has been articulated through the Third Additional Provision of Cantabria Law 11/2021, of 23 December, on Fiscal and Administrative Measures.

It is not necessary to request the collection of the Thermal Social Bonus.
The only requirement that must be met to be a beneficiary of the Thermal Social Bonus is to have been a recipient of the Electricity Social Bonus on 31 December of the year immediately prior to the year in which the aid is granted.
Thus, for example, people who held the status of beneficiary of the Electricity Social Bonus on 31 December 2023 will hold the status of beneficiaries of the Thermal Social Bonus corresponding to the year 2024.
